Beyond the Stars Workshop
A creative two‑day workshop exploring 3D sculpting, storytelling and gentle cosmic illumination
£120.00
Let your imagination drift into deep space. In this joyful, story‑rich workshop, you’ll create your own illuminated cosmic diorama — complete with a colourful planet, a tiny alien character, a hand‑sculpted rocket and a glowing star‑filled base.
Polymer clay is a wonderfully soft, colourful material that bakes hard in a standard home oven — no kiln or specialist equipment needed. It’s flexible, forgiving, and surprisingly easy to work with, making it perfect for beginners who are ready to explore something a little more detailed and three‑dimensional.
Across this immersive project, you’ll learn how to sculpt each element of your tiny universe: a swirling planet, a playful alien, a rocket bursting with character, and a textured space base. You’ll then bring everything together into a magical scene — adding tiny lights to make your cosmic world glow with gentle starlight.
We’ll move at a relaxed, supportive pace, with natural pauses for curing, painting and creative reflection. No previous experience is needed — just curiosity, imagination, and a love of colourful, whimsical making.
During this workshop you’ll explore a wide range of simple but beautifully effective techniques — including some more advanced sculpting and construction methods that bring depth, character and enchantment to your finished piece:
• Conditioning clay — softening and preparing it so it’s easy to sculpt
• Sculpting 3D forms — shaping planets, rockets and character features
• Building a stable structure — creating a strong base for your cosmic scene
• Designing a character — inventing and sculpting your own tiny alien
• Adding texture — creating craters, stripes, starry surfaces and rocket details
• Applying pigment — brushing on mica powders or pastels before curing
• Painting and finishing — adding colour, depth and definition after baking
• Integrating lighting — adding tiny lights to make your scene glow with gentle starlight
• Assembling your diorama — bringing all the elements together into a magical display
Your completed Beyond the Stars scene becomes a joyful decorative piece for your home, a unique gift, or a treasured keepsake full of imagination and colour.
Everything you need is provided, including lights and decorative elements. Please note: clay colours may vary slightly on the day.
