About the Artist

I’m Sara — founder of Sculpt Happy Studio, where I create polymer clay sculptures, silver clay jewellery, and gentle story‑led artwork inspired by nature, whimsy, and imagination.

Everything I make begins as a hand‑sculpted polymer clay original, whether it becomes wearable silver, wall art, or a tiny character with a story of their own.

Alongside my own practice, I guide others through bespoke, inclusive workshops that celebrate creativity, connection, and the simple joy of shaping something with your hands. My work blends making with teaching, drawing on years of experience in education and Special Educational Needs, to create spaces where people of all ages and abilities can explore, play, and feel supported.

Sculpt Happy Studio is my way of weaving art, wellbeing, and community into a place where everyone is welcome — a gentle home for creativity, imagination, and the quiet magic of making.

Awards & Recognition

In 2026, Sara was awarded a grant from the David Canter Memorial Fund, recognising her commitment to accessible craft, community wellbeing, and environmentally conscious practice. This support helped extend the reach of her community clay programme and invest in reusable resources and sample creation.

My creative journey began at the kitchen table as a child, shaping tiny creatures from polymer clay and losing myself in imaginary worlds. I sculpted wings, characters, and little stories long before I had the words for them.

Over the years, that early curiosity grew into a love of ceramics, silversmithing, and eventually precious metal clay — a medium that allowed me to blend sculpting with pure silver artistry. But polymer clay has always been my beginning, my anchor, and the place where every piece of my work still starts.

Clay has always been my outlet — a doorway where imagination and nature meet, and where the real and the whimsical can sit side by side. Those early creations became the roots of everything I do now.

Where It All Began

A Life in Teaching

My path into teaching grew from the same place as my art: a belief that creativity belongs to everyone. I spent many years working in education, including extensive experience with SEND, where I learned how powerful gentle guidance, patience, and play can be. Those years taught me to see each person’s strengths, to adapt intuitively, and to create spaces where everyone feels safe to explore and express themselves.

Teaching shaped the heart of Sculpt Happy Studio. It taught me that creativity isn’t just a skill — it’s connection, confidence, communication, and care. Whether I’m guiding a child through their first sculpture or supporting an adult rediscovering their creativity, I bring the same inclusive, person‑centred approach that shaped my years in education.

Creativity as Wellbeing

Creativity has always been more than a skill for me — it’s a way of feeling grounded, connected, and fully alive. Making with our hands slows the world down. It gives us space to breathe, to express what words can’t hold, and to rediscover parts of ourselves we thought we’d lost.

Through my work at Sculpt Happy Studio, I’ve seen clay facilitate connection, support confidence, and gently dissolve the fear so many people carry about not being “artistic enough.” I’ve watched people arrive unsure of their abilities, hesitant to try, and then slowly open — talking, laughing, creating, and surprising themselves with what their hands can do. Clay invites joy where uncertainty once lived, and pride where doubt used to sit. Its tactile qualities, soft colours, and mess‑free nature make it accessible to everyone, offering a sensory experience that is calming, grounding, and quietly healing.

This belief sits at the heart of everything I do: that creativity is for everyone, and that making together can help us feel more seen, more connected, and more human.

Community & Advocacy

Community has always been at the heart of my work, and much of that has grown through my connection with The Community Waffle House in Axminster and Lyme. Waffle is a vibrant, welcoming space built on social health, kindness, and genuine human connection — values that align deeply with everything I hope Sculpt Happy Studio can offer.

Through Waffle, I’ve seen how creativity can bring people together in gentle, meaningful ways. Workshops become places of conversation, companionship, and shared experience. People arrive unsure, sometimes carrying self‑doubt or loneliness, and leave with something they’ve made, a moment they’ve shared, or simply a feeling of being part of something warm and human. Waffle’s belief in this work has helped it grow, and together we’re exploring new ways to bring creativity, community, and gentle support into people’s lives.

My own journey has been shaped by the care I received during difficult times, and that experience continues to guide the way I show up for others. While Arc — Axminister's local counselling and psychotherapy service — played an important part in my personal recovery, my community work today is rooted in the partnerships and possibilities emerging through Waffle and local social‑health initiatives. It’s here that creativity, wellbeing, and connection meet — and where I hope to keep building spaces that feel safe, inclusive, and quietly transformative.

Little Light Art

Mim is one of the tiny tailed folk of Acorn Hollow — a small, handmade being who began life as a simple wooden peg doll before growing into something gentle, brave, and full of quiet magic. With her button‑jointed wired limbs, clay‑sculpted details, and soft wings, she carries the spirit of old storybooks: a touch of Bagpuss, a whisper of Wind in the Willows, and the warm, familiar comfort of creatures who feel like they’ve always existed.

She appears in moments of stillness, curiosity, and quiet courage. She listens. She notices the small things — the shift of light through leaves, the hush of a woodland morning, the comfort of a twig to lean on. She reminds us that support can be subtle, that imagination can be a form of care, and that even the smallest being can hold a light for someone else.

Mim is the heart of Little Light Art — the golden thread that connects everything I make and offer through Sculpt Happy Studio. She embodies the gentle, hopeful spirit behind my work: the belief that creativity can soothe, that stories can steady us, and that tiny moments of wonder can help us feel less alone. Through her, the healing‑centered side of my practice finds its voice.

She is the first of the tiny tailed folk of Acorn Hollow. Other folk will follow her in time — each with their own stories, their own quirks, their own quiet magic.

Mim stepped forward first, shining her light and inviting us into a world where tenderness is strength, imagination is a companion, and connection helps us find our way back to ourselves and to each other.
