Enchanted Birds Workshop

Create a textured bird artwork using simple layered techniques and enchanting finishes

£80.00

Discover how simple techniques can let a little enchantment unfold at your fingertips. In this gentle, creative workshop, you’ll build your own textured Bird Relief — a layered artwork full of colour, character and charm.

Polymer clay is a wonderfully soft, colourful material that bakes hard in a standard home oven — no kiln or specialist equipment needed. It’s flexible, forgiving, and surprisingly easy to work with, making it perfect for beginners who are ready to explore something a little more detailed.

With gentle guidance, you’ll work on a slightly larger scale, choosing from a selection of garden bird templates and building your design using simple layered techniques, textures, pigments and decorative elements. Your piece will be completely unique — an artistic impression of a bird you love, shaped with colours, patterns and details that feel like you.

We’ll move at a relaxed pace, with natural pauses for tea, conversation and creative reflection while your work cures. No previous experience is needed — just curiosity, a love of nature, and a willingness to explore a few new techniques with your hands.

During this workshop you’ll explore a range of simple but beautifully effective techniques — including some slightly more advanced methods that add depth, character and enchantment to your finished piece:

Conditioning clay — softening and preparing it so it’s easy to shape

Slab rolling — creating smooth, even sheets to work from

Cutting and shaping — forming clean, precise shapes using templates and cutters

Building an image — layering 2D shapes and joining pieces to compose your bird design

Adding texture — using tools and natural objects to create beautiful surface detail

Applying pigment — brushing on mica powders or pastels for shimmering colour

Curing (baking) — hardening your artwork safely and effectively

Finishing and refining — antiquing the surface with acrylic paint for a magical, aged feel

Embellishing — adding glass cabochons, foils and decorative touches for extra dimension

Your completed bird relief can become a beautiful cover for a sketchbook or journal, framed as wall art, or used to decorate a trinket or jewellery box if you wish.

Everything you need is provided, including decorative elements such as cabochons and foils. (Frames, books and boxes are optional extras — sketchbooks are available to purchase on the day.)

Please note: clay colours may vary slightly on the day.
